Make / Model: Apogee Boom
Year: 2020s
This is a very good sounding interface. Runs error free on my system. But the high point of it is the D/A, its just very very decent, and the built-in headphone amp is VERY good.
The downside to the unit, it is only one channel of input, but it sounds decent. The pre-amp is a bit noisy with a SM58, due to its limited gain range, but it sounds good even with the noise. The other downside: to use the speaker output, you MUST disconnect any headphones from the headphone jack.
Also, it uses Apogee’s monitor software, which I like, but again, won’t let you control the speakers and headphones independently, only one at a time, and the headphones MUST be unplugged for the outputs to main speakers to pass signal.
But I DO like it a lot. D/A wise, with headphones, its about 70% of the quality of the Apogee Duet 3 (which is fantastic), but on the main outs, I think it sounds even better than the Duet 3.
And it’s built relatively well, and fairly rugged.
Not a bad unit at all.
