Make / Model: Canon 7D
Year: 2009-2014
The 7D was released in November of 2009. As of the time I’m reviewing this, in 2024, this camera is 15 years old. When it was released, it was $1,800, and designed to fill the gap between Canon’s prosumer models and their 5D which was around $3k.
What you got was basically one of their prosumer SLR electronics, inside of a pro quality, sealed body (magnesium instead of plastic), with things like actual connectors to sync lights, a way faster high speed shooting mode, built in level, a top mounted LCD for quick settings, etc. As a result it’s heavy. But also as a result, its still working and viable as an option 15 years later.
This thing is huge compared to a Rebel t7, or a mirrorless camera. But also, you can drop it, and the lens may break, but the camera probably wont. And that heavyness can lead to steadyness. And if you happen to take it to the beach, the sand wont get inside the seals.
Picture quality wise? Its fine. It can shoot in RAW plus a number of combinations of JPG
Video? It’s fine, 1080p. Not 4k, but it looks fine.
This thing is a tool, and it feels as such.
If you want a lightweight, easy to use camera, do not get this.
If you want something to do work, this may be your jam.
