This is a decent radio, in that mil-spec form factor. It has good RX, and good transmit power, is well built, and is easy enough to program.

However, if you want a radio that you can listen to RX on outside of the 2 meter band, there will be some scrolling involved, as direct frequency input from the keypad is limited to 2 meters.
