Make / Model: Marshall 1960 4×12
Year: ?
Ok
Ok
The 1960 is like McDonalds, or Coke is to brand reliability: You know what it is. And it’s OK.
It has the serviceable Celestion GT75 speaker, which is OK.
What bothers me is the idea that someone may love this. Cuz it’s marginal. It’s standard. It’s not amazing. It’s not great. Its Ok.
It blows my mind when I go to the Marshall site and see them making hi-fi things, because they can barely make decent guitar stuff. It’s ok. Not great.
And you can get their vintage cabs, which are taller, and yet somehow sound the same. They have weird bass issues, but you just cram the 57 in the right spot and it’s a non-issue.
In rare instances, it has the Celestion G12M Greenback, which is fucking amazing…
But for the most part, this thing is shoelaces: It holds the shoe on, nothing to write home about, but it’s not going to ruin your day either.
Pricing wise- the fact these sell for $600+ is obscene. Def not worth that. $300 on craiglist with ripped tolex? Ok. It’s passable. I don’t want a million dollar big mac, the $1 works fine. Whats that you say, big macs cost like $6? Yeah, I’m vegan…
What blows my mind even more is that Marshall makes a cheaper version of these, as in cheaper in quality. Like, at that point, can we even call it a cabinet? Do you have to hold it together while you play it? How in the fuck could this be made any cheaper? it’s barely passable as is.
But, it’s passable.
