Nakamichi MR-2

09.18.24

Make / Model: Nakamichi MR-2
Year: 1990s

This is a decent cassette deck, from the 1980s, with the quality you would expect from Nakamichi (high quality) but with professional features, like adjustable tape speed, and 1/4″ outputs, with selectable levels. Hell, you can even adjust the bias for recording, with a pot on the front.

Downside, the tape speed potentiometer is most likely dead, and finding a 2k Ohm log pot with a Center detent that nulls out the 4th pin, is impossible. Just finding a 2k Ohm log pot that will fit it even without the detent, is impossible (I didn find a 1k pot), but your actually just best to bypass the whole tape speed control (shunt the pins together) and use the internal trimmer pot to adjust anything that you need.

Other than that, nice tape deck. I need one to transfer old tapes. BTW, cassette is a horrible format.
