This a cool little radio.

First off, the quality, compared to a Baofeng, is way better.

Just turning the slightly detented tuning knob in this is so satisfying.

And for scanning, this is the radio to have. It covers pretty much the entire spectrum you would want for scanning. And with that great tuning knob, it is easy to jump around with a twist of the knob. And being an analog tuner, there is no delay between channels, so you will hear if a station comes alive while tuning. This is a big advantage of scanning over the Baeofeng.

However, it does not feel as rugged as the Baofeng. Is heavier. Has less battery life. And is bigger.

And while this radio does have a nice signal strength indicator, I find the rest of it’s display, harder to read than the Baofeng.

When you consider this radio costs six times what the Baefeng costs, well…

But it is a great radio to sit on the couch with, and scan. Not sure I’d want to throw it in my bag though.
