Calculating Value

01.02.09

One of the difficulties in exploring new things In life, be it an activity or tool/technology, is assesing the value, or the benefit it brings to me. Sometimes I may miss the actual value something provides by paying attention more to aesthetic or philosophical attributes of a thing, rather than what it actually does for me.

To counteract this, I came up with this little equation.
Reward ÷ Time = Value

To use: Take the thing you want to assess, and rank it’s variables of Reward received and Time invested, then calculate.

Example:

Tool A Tool B
Reward 4 8
Time 6 3
Value 0.6 2.6

In this situation Tool B has more Value (Reward ÷ Time = Value) than Tool A.
